Penicillin is a group of antibiotics derived from Penicillium fungi. Ampicillin and Amoxycillin are synthetic modifications of penicillin. Penicillin destroys bacteria by destroying the cell wall of the microorganism or kills the bacteria so, it has a bactericidal effect. Penicillin as a class of antibiotics is generally a narrow spectrum but when used in the combination with other antibiotics, it can make up a part of broad-spectrum antibiotics.
